C.W. CHU SCHOLARSHIP ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Meeting Minutes
Present: Andre Au, Benny Lam, K.B.Lo, Prof. Louise M.Leung, Manly Liu, Tony Lam, Prof. Victor O.K.Li, Prof. Albert K.Wong, Ray Wong, Simon Wong.
Venue: Metropol Restaurant, Admiralty

•Simon Wong’s Report
-Reports the possibility of VU and Huashang College’s cooperation on exchange program, sister school etc. [ Huashang College http://www.huashangcollege.com/]
-The cooperation might be in the following forms:
I VU supports Huanshang College’s English teaching by sending lecturers, students;
II A 2+1+2 model following Dr. C. W. Chu’s spirit. It could be two years in Huashang, one year in VU then transfer to other universities in the states.
-Suggests the Association should elect more vice chairmen of different functions.
•Prof. Victor O. K .Li provides four topics for discussion
-朱敬文奖学金同学会 [C. W. Chu Scholarship Alumni Association]’s official name need to be approved by alumni.
-C. W. Chu College’s mission statement is to broaden the outlook of students to acquire an international perspective through education programmes and overseas exchange as well as internship during holidays; to cultivate among students a commitment to personal responsibility and integrity, as well as the spirit of self-help and helping others. Architect for the C. W. Chu College Construction program has not been decided yet. The C. W. Chu alumi is a strong network for the new students in C. W. Chu College.
-The objective of C. W. Chu Scholarship Alumni Association needs to be refined. Various opinions have been brought forward. After brief discussion, alumni agreed that in line with Dr. C. W. Chu’s spirit, different charity projects, education programmes are compatible. Prof. Albert K. Wong is managing the VU Scholarship with IIE. The criteria of selecting students in this project is-: to help those Hong Kong students who are less informative; who are in financial need; who have the potential to make contributions to society. Alumni discussed the possibility of expanding the scholarship to mainland China. Prof. Louise M. Leung noted the visa issue might be one of the difficulties. K. B. Lo reminded us that students in six universities in the Suzhou Region are already sponsored by David Chu. As such, these six universities, the C. W. Chu College and VU can be combined as a TRIANGLE platform for student exchange programmes; Prof. Albert K. Wong mentioned that IIE roadshow has shifted to Chengdu instead of Hong Kong this year.
•C. W. Chu Scholarship Alumni Association has elected one chairman Prof. Victor O. K. Li, five vice chairmen, namely: Prof. Albert K. Wong, Benny Lam, K. B. Lo, Tony Lam, Ray Wong. They are in charge of different functions:
-Chairman – Prof. Victor O. K. Li: Responsible for the operation and development of the association in accordance with its mission.
-Vice Chairman – Prof. Albert K Wong: Responsible for fund raising and managing the HK programme.
- Vice Chairman – Benny Lam: Responsible for organizing the alumni list, and identifying representatives for each cohort year of entry to VU and other universities with C.W.Chu Scholars.
-Vice Chairman –K. B. Lo: assists the Chairman duties as may be prescribed by the Chairman.
-Vice Chairman –Tony Lam: association/society registration. Study the possibility of charging membership fees to the association
-Vice Chairman – Ray Wong: responsible for activities/events organization.
•Monthly Dinner Meetings
-It is decided that there will be a dinner meeting the last Monday of each month, as detailed below. The next meeting will be held on March 31st and the venue will be announced in due course.
